Why is the rum always gone?

Why is the rum always gone?

Apparently the third time really IS the charm. After two failed attempts at holding our annual UAC Pirate Cruise, Mother Nature finally cooperated and allowed us back on the Kaw with a gaggle of kids to search for buried treasure.

As with most pirate adventures, ours was met with a mix of success and failure. We set out in search of three treasures. Alas, the mateys found only two. Mother Kaw laid claim to a sandbar that held one of the treasures during the big storm that rolled through a week prior. Nonetheless, we made our way down the river and as usual, she did not disappoint.  Kids, adults, and the resident UAC canine were all at the helm for this float.

Our last sandbar was carved out nicely with a small pool of water where the kids played -- until we began picking them off the sand and tossing them back into the water. Just keep holdin' your nose, Addy! It'll be fine, I promise! For those of you who couldn't make it this year, there's always gold to be found in those sandbars. And we'll be back at it next year. Argh!
